Understanding the Wounded Heart of Children and the Families that Love Them
Friday, Jul 14, 2017
9:00am – 4:00pm
Join Crystal Krueger, MAPC, CCTP in exploring ways to help both caregivers and professionals alike who provide direct and indirect support to children who are victims of trauma. This training will give participants a general understanding of the neurobiology behind trauma, clarification of the unique needs of children in the foster care system, and how to make sense of traumatized children’s behaviors. Participants will be encouraged to grasp the breadth of the various types of trauma within the foster care system that directly impacts the way they care for the children that they serve. This training will also begin to bridge the gap between theory and reality in terms of helping caregivers understand how to meet the needs of these children. Also learn how behaviors are generated based off of trauma histories and how to mediate the effects of those histories when working with children in the foster care system. Participants will also be encouraged to participate in a discussion about the practical application of discipline for children who have been traumatized.
