Course Description

This 1-day training will focus on working with adults and children who are neurodiverse. We will focus on how to approach work and healing specifically with clients with Autism, ADHD/ADD with a trauma informed approach. We will fully explain neurodiversity varies from the neurotypical brain in terms of regulation, thinking, and relationships.  Participants will discover how the interaction between the internal wiring in the brain, relationship, and the environment can be modified and accommodations can be put in place to support clients with neurodiversity. The training will also address practices to best serve this population when they are healing from trauma.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will be able to understand ways that trauma may be processed and stored differently in a neurodiverse person.
  • Participants will be able to understand how to work with clients who are neurodiverse and have experienced trauma from a trauma informed lens.
  • Participants will be able to understand how the brain is neurobiologically wired for attachment and the neurodivergent brain may experience relationships differently.
  • Participants will learn how to work with neurodevelopmental strengths and challenges caused by trauma and evaluation using the ACE’s and other tools.
  • Participants will learn what sensory and self-regulation activities can used with this client group.
  • Participants will be able to understand the importance of psycho-education around default wiring and templates for this group and draft usable scripts to help clients understand how their brains and bodies may have been impacted by this trauma.
