Course Description

In this engaging presentation, Cynthia Djengue, MSSW, LCSW, offers participants a transformative exploration of strength in grief. With over 30 years of experience in social work, Cynthia brings experience in hospice, medical social work, and psychotherapy adding a wealth of knowledge to her discussion. Attendees will benefit from Cynthia’s professional and personal expertise as she guides them through diverse perspectives on loss, emphasizing strengths and resilience as valuable assets in coping with grief. Cynthia’s unique and personal approach extends to understanding the role of faith and expression in the grieving process, empowering individuals to navigate their sorrow with a blend of resilience and support.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will comprehend the diverse nature of loss and grief, distinguishing between various forms such as bereavement, divorce, and job loss, and recognize common emotional reactions associated with each.
  • Participants will develop an understanding of resilience, learning strategies to foster personal resilience and resilience stories from real-life examples, enabling them to navigate sorrow with increased strength.
  • Participants will enhance their emotional intelligence, utilizing it as an inner compass during times of grief, through introductory knowledge, practical exercises, and strategies for heightened emotional awareness and regulation.
  • Participants will recognize the significance of a support network as an external asset, learning how to build and maintain a robust support system, and understanding when and how to seek professional help when necessary.
  • Participants will explore spirituality as an asset in coping with loss, gaining insights into various spiritual perspectives on grief, and acquiring practices to nourish the spirit during challenging times.
  • Participants will discover the healing power of creativity and expression, understanding the role of creativity in the grieving process and engaging in guided activities that foster self-expression and aid in navigating sorrow.

CE Credits

Credits listed below are for full attendance of the live training.  Attendees will sign in upon arrival and after lunch.  At the end of the training, attendees will be given an evaluation to complete.  After completing the evaluation attendees will receive a certificate of completion for the training.

Training Presenter – Cynthia Djengue, MSSW, LCSW

Cynthia Djengue, MSSW, LCSW, is a seasoned psychotherapist specializing in private work with couples and individuals across Arizona and Oregon. Her journey in the field spans over three decades, originating from her Master of Science in Social Work earned at the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1997. Her diverse experience encompasses roles in medical social work, case management, hospice & home health, and family and individual counseling. Over the years, she has garnered certifications in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), Master level Reiki practitioner, Heart Math, Negotiation Skills (Harvard), and Integrative Coaching. Recently trained by Columbia University’s School of Social Work in Prolonged Grief, she draws upon these diverse skills to provide psychotherapy to individuals and couples with a mindfulness approach and strengths-based focus.

In addition to her clinical work, she is deeply committed to education and community outreach. As an Adjunct Faculty member in Maricopa Community College’s Behavioral Health Science bachelor’s program, she shares her knowledge and insights with aspiring professionals. Inspired by the work of Dr. Rhoton and the salutogenic approach through the Arizona Trauma Institute, she recently attained certification as a CCTP (Certified Clinical Trauma Professional). Her goal is to contribute to community well-being by furthering education on Mindfulness approaches to trauma, and interpersonal relations, and fostering healthier and more authentic emotional expression.
